Suicide bomber "A bomb on a human platform"

The suicide bomber (suicide IED – Improvise Explosive Device) is one of the most dangerous and effective weapon systems facing civilized societies today and into the future. Suicide IEDs have become the terrorists’ preferred weapon of choice. They are inexpensive, relatively easy to produce, difficult to counter and have a palpable risk/reward ratio for the terrorist.

It’s the most deadly and sophisticated weapon named by the terrorist group- “bomb on human platform” They look like us dress like us, appear suddenly in our daily routine and explode. Although less than 10% of the terrorist attacks in the world are suicide attacks, 50% of the terrorist’s attacks victims are from suicide attacks. The questions that we should ask ourselves:

  • Can we recognize them in advance?
  • What are signs that can indicate for upcoming suicide attack?
  • What are the protective measures?

As seen in conflicts areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan, IED attacks can also have a destabilizing and destructive effect on deployed forces engaged in coalition stability operations and nation-building efforts.

In particular, the threat from suicide bombers presents a significant challenge in terms of tactics, techniques and procedures, as well as wider policy and equipment procurement issues.

The Counter-Suicide Bomber seminar introduces real scenarios and case studies - as well as tactics and techniques necessary to assist the security forces in the defeat of suicide bombers in both permissive and hostile environments.

Finally, the danger point is the potential attacker believes:

A meaningful death is better than a pointless life
