To meet the growing demand of care givers and working professionals seeking practical oriented and intensive knowledge in specific fields of counselling and psychology. We have developed a series of Professional Certification programs in Counselling, Social Sciences, Psychology, Psychotherapy and Behavioral Science to meet societal and familial needs of our community.
The aim of this program is to provide relevant training for students seeking a professional career in the field of aging. The program provides the student with the basic knowledge and skills needed to work with the elderly, to identify and obtain community resources and to design effective social support systems for the aged
Course Structure
The Professional Certificate course comprises of 18 contact hours of face to face training covering the following topics
Introduction to Gerontology
This module focuses on the overview of gerontology, the study of aging using a multi-disciplinary approach. It will covers the biology of aging and the contextual development of cognitive-behavioral approaches; evaluative research and current status; contemporary issues and developments.
Physiology of Aging: Personality, Response/Motivation/Coping
This module will cover the developmental aspect of aging and its effect on personality, mental health and physical health. It will cover dementia and depression of elderly and the potential early warning signals.
Counselling Strategies & Techniques for Elderly
The module examines, experiences, and applies a variety of therapeutic intervention strategies that is tailored to elderly. It will provide an opportunity for students to broaden exposure to therapeutic interventions, to further develop and specialize in the study of gerontology
Course Delivery
Participants can choose from the following options available
Part-time: 6 weekdays lessons over 3 weeks from 7.00pm to 10.00pm
Full-time: 2 day intensive program, from 9am to 6pm
Entry Requirements
Mature Candidate (Age 21 years and above)
Diploma qualification from a recognized institution
Senior executives with extensive experience but without academic qualification may be considered on a case to case basis
Assessment & Award
Upon successful completion, students will be awarded a Certificate of Completion by Centre for Behavioral Science.
